Welcome to MOBIUS Affiliated PhD candidate, Luiza Aguiar do Nascimento, who is based at the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment, La Trobe University and the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS).

Luiza is in her final year of her PhD under the supervision of Associate Professor Wren Greene and Dr Saimon Moraes Silva, focusing on electrochemistry, electroanalysis and materials synthesis.

“During my PhD, I have been developing advanced materials, such as 2D conductive polymers,” explains Luiza.

“It has been exciting to work on scientifically challenging projects, including developing first-of-their kind materials and understanding how they work. In one project, we did what was thought to be ‘impossible’ by conventional electrochemistry: we performed an electrochemical reaction in deionised water.”

Now in MOBIUS, Luiza is part of a network of diverse sensor researchers and professionals across industry and academia.

“MOBIUS is home to excellent professionals in electrochemistry and sensing who I can learn from – I feel well connected, and it has made my PhD even more engaging,” she says.
