Redefining health tracking
We are pleased to welcome MOBIUS Theme Leader, Distinguished Professor Madhu Bhaskaran (RMIT University), who will present ‘Redefining health tracking: wearables, nearables, and point-of-need diagnostics‘ on Tuesday 15 September 2026, 10-11am AEST.
Abstract
The seminar will focus on the journey for translation and commercialization of soft electronics technology with industry partners. I will highlight real-world applications across diverse sectors, including wearables for continuous health monitoring, nearables (such as sensors integrated into bedding), skin-adhered sensors for tracking harmful substances like UV radiation and nicotine levels, and point-of-need diagnostics that bring lab-quality analysis to the patient.

About the speaker
Distinguished Professor Madhu Bhaskaran is a multi-award winning electronics engineer and innovator.
She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. She co-leads the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University which she established in 2010.
She is the Director of the Discovery to Device Medtech Prototyping Facility at RMIT University.
Her work on electronic skin and wearable sensors has been patented and her group now works collaboratively with multiple industry and design partners to commercialise the technology for healthcare and aged care.
She is a passionate advocate for equity and diversity and she proudly co-leads Women in STEMM Australia.
