We are thrilled that MOBIUS lead researcher, Associate Professor Noushin Nasiri, Head of the NanoTech Laboratory in the Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering, was named 2025 Sydney Professional Engineer of the Year at the 2025 Engineers Australia Excellence Awards.

The award recognises Associate Professor Nasiri’s outstanding work as a nanotechnologist and materials scientist, leading cross-disciplinary research in wearable UV sensors, breath analysis devices, and stress-detection platforms. As the Global Chair of IEEE Women in Nanotechnology, she actively promotes equity in STEM fields while delivering high-impact engineering solutions, collaborating with industry across the health, agriculture, and environmental sectors.

Associate Professor Nasiri will now represent Sydney at the national Engineers Australia Excellence Awards in November 2025.

Her impressive track record includes the 2025 Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Innovative Use of Technology, 2024 ARC Industry Fellowship, 2022 L’Oréal- UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship, and recognition as one of Australia’s 2021-2022 Superstars of STEM. She was also a 2023 Eureka Prize finalist and recipient of the 2021 Asian-Australian Leadership Award.
