Meet the 2026 Co-Chairs of our EMCR Committee

Dr Azadeh Nilghaz (Monash University) and Ben McKenzie (La Trobe University) are the 2026 Co-Chairs of our Early- and Mid-Career (EMCR) Committee.

Azadeh is a Research Fellow based at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, bringing a background biomedical and chemical engineering to develop smart, accessible molecular biosensors. Ben, a PhD candidate based at School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment, La Trobe University, is developing sensors that can detect pathogens in the field.

Together, they are leading the Committee’s activities to help build a strong, connected EMCR community, including creating opportunities for networking, mentorship, skills development, and collaboration across disciplines.

“I am excited to Co-Chair and contribute my experience in major research programs, mentoring and supervision, industry engagement, and professional service,” says Azadeh.

Meanwhile, Ben enjoys working with EMCRs to help build a sense of community and ensure everyone can get the most benefit out of activities.

“We are committed to helping strengthen collaboration, inclusivity, and professional development within the MOBIUS community,” say Azadeh and Ben. “We are particularly keen to help deliver a program that balances practical skill-building with community-building events, and improve pathways to collaboration and translation, including with industry.”
