On 23 February 2026, we teamed up with three other Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Research Programs (ITRPs) for a grant writing workshop facilitated by Dr Narelle Tunstall (Empirical Careers): ‘Grant writing fundamentals, Creating persuasive narratives’.

We worked with the ARC Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies and Applications (OPTIMA); the ARC Research Hub for Future Fibres; and the ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing with 2D Materials (AM2D)) for this stellar event.

42 Early and Mid-Career Researchers joined the session to strengthen core grant development skills, from writing with clarity for diverse reviewers to building persuasive narratives that demonstrate benefits, outcomes and real-world impact. The workshop also provided a supportive environment for participants to test their ideas through live pitch practice.

The enthusiasm that all of the EMCRs brought was inspiring, as was the quality of the pitches developed at the workshop. Congratulations to Dr Lucas Rosson from ARC Research Hub for Future Fibres for winning the workshop pitch.

Collaborations like this highlight the value of working across ITRPs to build capability, share expertise, and support the next generation of research leaders.
