RMIT Vice Chancellor Senior Research Fellowship for Nick Reynolds

Congratulations to MOBIUS Chief Investigator, Dr Nicholas Reynolds, who recently received a Vice Chancellor Senior Research Fellowship from RMIT University.

Nick’s research focuses on understanding how proteins and small molecules self-assemble to form nanoscale structures—smaller than a human hair.

“Self-assembled structures are used in biosensors, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and understanding the molecular origins of viral and other diseases,” says Nick.

“I take a trans-disciplinary approach, drawing on my background in biochemistry, chemistry and physics to explore the molecular processes that underpin self-assembly—and then turning this understanding into materials with real-world applications,” he explains.

Nick leads the MOBIUS industry project with international partner, CELLINK, where they will develop smart printable materials with sensing functionality.

“The smart materials we develop will enable us to better understand cells, tissues and other biomolecules encapsulated within bioprinted materials, in ways that are not currently possible,” says Nick.
