Second Australian Future Sensing Conference

DATE: 2-4 September 2026.

LOCATION: Melbourne, Australia.

This was the premier event for the Sensors and Biosensors community in Australia. With an excellent line-up of plenary speakers, high-quality contributed oral talks and poster sessions, this meeting catalysed cross-disciplinary interactions and showcase progress in this rapidly expanding area.

The three-day program will featured daily plenary presentations followed by keynote presentations as well as a refereed selection of submitted papers and interactive poster sessions.

MOBIUS was a proud Platinum Sponsor of the Australian Future Sensing Conference 2026. It was jam packed with diverse and quality presentations on all things sensors at La Trobe University’s City Campus!

We are grateful for opening remarks by La Trobe’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Research & Innovation), Professor Chris Pakes, who set the scene for a stellar research showcase; and plenaries by Distinguished Professor Kevin Plaxco and MOBIUS lead researcher, Professor Yuling Wang, who took us for deep dives into advances in in-vivo biosensors and cutting-edge molecular detection.

We are particularly impressed by the range of presentations, from fundamental studies through to translation-focused research, including by MOBIUS’ Associate Professor Wren Greene, Dr Ying Zhu, and Postdoctoral Fellows and Researchers Dr Azadeh Nilghaz, Dr Helmini Jayarathne, Dr Robert Sikos, Dr Ronil Rath, and Dr Pabudi Weerathunge.

And we were excited by the outstanding quality of the PhD Flash Talks (13 students, with 3 minutes each), and the poster presentations—well done to MOBIUS’ Henry Bellette, Thiago Pimenta, Dr Helmini Jayarathne, Dr Samridhi Bajaj, Ben McKenzie, Atharva Deshpande, Dr Sanje Mahasivam, Dr Piyumi Liyanage, Dr Pabudi Weerathunge, Hansani Maussawa, Thien Tien Nguyen, and Vatsala Pithaih.

Day 2’s fantastic panel discussion, “Sensing Tomorrow: Frontiers in Materials, Methods & Meaning,” chaired by Dr Olga Bubnova, Chief Editor of Nature Sensors, featured MOBIUS’ Distinguished Professor Madhu Bhaskaran, Professor Noushin Nasiri; and Professor Kirill Alexandrov. It was an exciting and thought-provoking conversation about sensors, and the challenges ahead both scientifically and in translation.

A big thank you to all of the speakers and the fabulous organising team led by MOBIUS’ Dr Saimon Moraes Silva.
